Camas has a New Artisans' Guild

Updated: Mar 15, 2022

The Artisans’ Guild of Camas (AGC) is a rapidly-evolving initiative dedicated to promoting the arts in the City of Camas.

The idea for the AGC came about when local creatives—Deborah Nagano, Angela Swanson, India de Landa, and Toni McCarthy—discovered that a Camas-specific arts organization didn’t exist. Committed to both the arts and the community, the founding members have a vision of bringing art and art-related events to the people of Camas and supporting member artists through programming and networking. They are excited about the potential for the AGC and look forward to expanding the organization this year.

The AGC is still fleshing out the nuts and bolts of the organization but has defined the overarching mission and goals, as well as how you can get involved.

The Vision of the Artisans’ Guild of Camas

As it continues to grow over the next few months, the AGC remains focused on community involvement, such as working to establish a strong relationship with Camas businesses and stakeholders.

The AGC mission “is dedicated to inspiring enthusiasm for the visual arts and crafts through education and exhibition opportunities.” As part of the AGC, artists will experience the following benefits and more:

Some of AGC's objectives include:

  • To encourage artisans to display art at planned events in Camas

  • To partner with Camas merchants and businesses to display and sell art

  • To participate in community events that encourage the arts in Camas and the surrounding area

  • To explore visual art and craft techniques via class instruction and demonstration

  • To promote open studio events for member artists and artisans

The benefits of membership are:

  • The opportunity to meet and socialize with other artisans at monthly meetings

  • Opportunities to promote artists and their art in events, and community activities

  • Introduction to other art forms

  • Share knowledge or art and marketing of art

  • Classes, demonstrations, and education of various forms of art and craft

  • Information provided on regional art shows

  • The opportunity to partner with local businesses to display art (still working on this!)

  • A complimentary place in our local artisans’ list including a picture and links to website and social media channels

  • The opportunity to have a dedicated individual artist page showcasing you and your art/craft (coming soon).

If you want to read more about the AGC vision, please visit the “about” section of the website.

Additionally, AGC is offering free membership for artisans in Camas and neighboring communities. Artisans of any level of expertise and medium are encouraged to join. The specifics of programming are evolving, but by the summer of 2022, the AGC hopes to have officers chosen and art events planned!

Their next meeting open to the public will be on March 22nd at 6:30 pm (location TBD) and there will be a talk given by Pamela Sue Johnson about the Art of Selling Art and how she has made a living as an artist. Sign up for the mailing list to get more information on this event.
